What the programme does

Civic and governance engagement

Youth voter awareness, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) data accountability and active civic participation. We took part in Reject Finance Bill 2024 and Dignity in Public Service.

Research and lived experience

Documentation, evidence-building and policy analysis grounded in the people policies affect, including our research on sustainable menstrual health approaches for grassroots initiatives in Kenya.

Community accountability

Feedback systems, social-accountability mechanisms and civic engagement connecting communities, programmes and institutions. Youth-led programme design is part of this work.

From Ruaraka to the world stage

We took part in the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) and the Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum (GMGSF) in 2025, advocating for youth engagement in environmental governance and menstrual waste management.

At the Nairobi assembly in December 2025, we focused on the environmental impact of disposable menstrual products alongside access to affordable hygiene products.

Source: our UNEA-7 update. We took youth voices into environmental governance and menstrual health conversations.

Eight menstrual health principles

The Innovating Dignity seminar produced a youth-led framework on menstrual health, hygiene and dignity in December 2025.

  • Knowledge and education; access and affordability.
  • Product choice; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure.
  • Health and clinical care; inclusion and rights.
  • Innovation and youth leadership; governance and accountability.

Our 2024 paper is Sustainable Menstrual Health Approaches for Grassroot Initiatives in Kenya. Read the research on SSRN.
